Cuban President Condemns Israeli Attacks as Death Toll Rises
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has condemned recent Israeli airstrikes targeting hospitals and journalists, urging an end to what he describes as “barbarism” against the Palestinian people. “The Zionist regime continues with impunity the extermination of the Palestinian people. It has murdered more than 62,000 people, while thousands are at risk of dying from hunger and malnutrition, and it cowardly attacks hospitals and journalists. It is time to stop this barbarism,” the president stated on the social media platform X, reports 24brussels.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed an attack on Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday, expressing regret for any harm to civilians. The assault reportedly resulted in at least 20 fatalities among patients and medical personnel, as reported by the Ministry of Public Health.
Al Jazeera later reported the deaths of five journalists due to the strike. Palestinian authorities estimate that since October 7, 2023, a total of 244 journalists have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Cuba continues to advocate for a two-state solution in line with the United Nations resolution from 1947, emphasizing that it remains the only viable path to establish lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.
