Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Celebrates One Year in Office with Strong Approval Rating

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, marking her one year in office on October 1 with an approval rating exceeding 70 percent, declared during her program Las Mañaneras del Pueblo that Mexicans play a crucial role in sustaining the U.S. economy, reports 24brussels.

“Mexican men and women workers are so hardworking, so good that they have not only built up Mexico’s economy, but also that of the United States. The United States would not be what it is if it weren’t for Mexican workers,” Sheinbaum stated. Her comments highlighted the integral contribution of Mexican laborers to both nations.

While emphasizing her administration’s accomplishments, Sheinbaum recounted a conversation with an executive from a U.S. automaker, who remarked that “the most productive plant they have in the entire world is the one in Mexico.” The president asserted her commitment to ongoing transformation in the country, stating, “We are doing well and will do even better. We came to continue transforming the nation, for peace and the well-being of the people.” She also criticized the low wages that had previously been prevalent in Mexico.

“Mexican men and women are to be respected; we are a hardworking people with a cultural greatness that few peoples in the world possess,” she asserted, reinforcing her respect for the labor force.

Additionally, Sheinbaum highlighted significant constitutional reforms implemented during her first year, asserting they largely reverse neoliberal policies and promote democracy. “The Indigenous Peoples Reform was carried out, which this year resulted in a public budget, for the first time in history, for all Indigenous and Afro-descendant communities,” she noted, emphasizing her administration’s commitment to inclusivity.

As she concludes her first year, Sheinbaum’s administration aims to solidify its initiatives and harness the potential of its workforce, all while navigating ongoing challenges both domestically and internationally.
