Trump refused several conditions Maduro proposed during a brief Nov. 21 call about stepping down.
Maduro asked for full legal amnesty for himself and his family, the lifting of U.S. sanctions on over 100 officials, and the closure of an International Criminal Court case against him.
He also proposed that Vice President Delcy Rodríguez lead an interim government before new elections.
Trump rejected most demands but gave Maduro one week to leave Venezuela with safe passage.
That deadline expired Friday, prompting Trump to announce the closure of Venezuelan airspace.

Statement of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan
On December 1, 2025, the Sabail District Court ordered the pre-trial detention of Ali Karimli — Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), former State Secretary, and Member of Parliament — as well as Mammad Ibrahim, Secretary of the PFPA Supreme Assembly.
The PFPA asserts that these detentions, charges, and arrest decisions are the result of a political order issued from the highest levels of government. Ali Karimli has dedicated his political career to the democratization of Azerbaijan and its integration into the Euro-Atlantic community. His steadfast commitment to these goals has led to repeated persecution. Now, exploiting the current international climate, the Azerbaijani authorities have seized the moment to silence the PFPA and its chairman by placing him under arrest.
The PFPA states that Ilham Aliyev bears full responsibility for Ali Karimli’s health and safety as the person who ordered this arrest.
At the same time, the PFPA:
— demands the immediate release of Ali Karimli and Mammad Ibrahim;
— calls for the fabricated charges against them to be dropped.The PFPA urges both domestic and international communities not to stay silent in the face of the ongoing brutal crackdown in Azerbaijan.
The PFPA affirms that it will continue its peaceful and democratic political activities in full accordance with its charter.

🇻🇪 No help will come to Maduro: Venezuela, amid U.S. tensions, cannot count on allies
The Wall Street Journal reports that neither Russia, China, nor Iran are prepared to intervene, despite years of anti-American rhetoric.
Caracas’ network of allies is falling apart. Cuba, Iran, and Nicaragua are too weak economically. Russia is bogged down in the war with Ukraine, while China is preoccupied with its own problems.
Moscow and Beijing are focused on building relations with Trump and are unwilling to spend political capital on Maduro.
