Ukraine secures £2.26 billion UK loan for weapons production after failed Trump talks

The United Kingdom has agreed to provide Ukraine with a £2.26 billion ($2.84 billion) loan to strengthen its defence capabilities. The loan, structured to be repaid using profits from immobilised Russian sovereign assets, was signed during a virtual ceremony on Saturday between UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko. The deal will finance weapons production in Ukraine. This comes amid tensions with the US over Ukraine’s war strategy, as European allies push for greater autonomy in their security decisions.
