A message of neighbourly solidarity is thriving in Birmingham against a backdrop of racist intimidation
When Mus unfurled the leaflet lying on her driveway, she was left shocked, angry and upset. “White Britons are already a minority in London … it is clear that if these trends continue white people will become a minority in Britain,” it read.
The leaflet, written by a far-right group, was distributed along her street three years ago in Moseley, a leafy suburb of Birmingham. It went on to blame NHS waiting lists, a shortage of social housing and even traffic on “the rising population”.
The Timex SSQ Digital Reissue Marks a Retro Revival
The Timex SSQ Digital Reissue, featuring a nostalgic design and a simple LCD display reminiscent of its innovative debut in 1975, is set to capture the attention of watch enthusiasts. The modern iteration, while not a direct replica, incorporates contemporary electronics while maintaining the minimalist essence of the original, reports 24brussels.
Originally launched as the first practical digital watch, Timex’s SSQ was pivotal in popularizing low-energy LCD displays. The current reissue includes a durable recycled stainless-steel case, a brushed steel bracelet, and a vibrant navy blue acrylic bezel surrounding the display. Unlike the original’s single crown dial, the new version features a pusher button on each side of the bezel, simplifying time adjustment. Additionally, the watch is water-resistant up to 50 meters, although Timex warns this feature may be compromised if submerged while operating the buttons.
Currently listed on the Timex Japan website for 28,600 yen (approximately $187), the SSQ Digital Reissue is expected to hit pre-order status on October 17th, 2025. In the United States, it is priced at $159 on Timex’s site, though it is currently sold out.
This re-release not only revitalizes a beloved piece of horological history but also resonates with a growing trend in the watch industry, which seeks to blend nostalgia with modern technology. As consumers increasingly gravitate toward products that evoke the past while ensuring functionality, the Timex SSQ Digital Reissue stands out in today’s market.
