Realforce Launches Limited Edition Gundam Keyboards

Japanese keyboard maker Realforce has announced a collaboration with the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, unveiling four limited edition mechanical keyboards inspired by iconic Gundam designs. The models are based on the Z Gundam and Hyaku Shiki from Zeta Gundam, as well as the Nu Gundam and Sazabi from Char’s Counterattack. Reservations for the keyboards are set to begin in late December, though pricing details have yet to be revealed, reports 24brussels.

Each model is based on the Realforce GX1 mechanical keyboard, a tenkeyless design typically priced around $250. While it lacks hot-swap capability, the keyboard features capacitive Topre switches, similar to those found in premium models like the Happy Hacking Keyboard and the Norbauer Seneca, which retails for $3,600.

Realforce plans to offer both English and Japanese ISO layouts, raising hopes that these uniquely styled keyboards will be available outside Japan. Fans of the franchise are optimistic that the keyboards will eventually reach markets in the US.

Despite the excitement surrounding this collaboration, some enthusiasts have expressed concerns about the designs, describing them as too simplistic when compared to other themed keyboards available in the market. In contrast, various unlicensed Gundam keycap sets add a more vibrant flair to enthusiasts’ setups, illustrating a growing community interest in custom peripherals.

For many fans, the only remaining question is whether additional accessories, such as matching Gunpla kits, will accompany the keyboard release, further enhancing the experience for collectors and users alike.
