Consumer advocacy bodies and Greens say Labor failed to act fast enough to prevent last week’s outage linked to multiple deaths
An independent manager of the triple-zero emergency system has not yet been staffed by the federal government, despite it being a key recommendation of the review into Optus’ last emergency outage.
The communications minister, Anika Wells, said she wanted to “fast track” that process and others rising out of the latest debacle from the maligned telco, but consumer advocacy bodies and the Greens are critical the government hasn’t worked quicker. Calls are growing Optus to face multi-million dollar fines even higher than the penalties from a similar incident in 2023.
Belgian biotech company Argenx will join the Euro Stoxx 50 index on Monday, marking a significant milestone as its shares have surged approximately 7,200 percent since its listing on the Brussels stock exchange 11 years ago, reports 24brussels.
This inclusion may revitalize interest in the biotech sector, which has often been overlooked by European investors. Analysts assert that Argenx’s shares possess substantial growth potential.
“Argenx is a global role model,” stated David Seynnaeve, an analyst at Bank Degroof Petercam. “It will help to interest European generalist investors, who are generally more risk-averse than American investors, in the story.”
Sales Doubled
Argenx, headquartered in Ghent, specializes in Vyvgart, a treatment for several rare conditions. Sales of this drug in the second quarter of 2025 nearly doubled compared to the same quarter last year.
Alongside Argenx, Deutsche Bank and Siemens Energy will also be included in the Euro Stoxx 50, which features the companies with the highest market capitalisation in the eurozone across various sectors. Anheuser-Busch InBev remains the only other Belgian company in the index.
In contrast, telecom manufacturer Nokia, automotive giant Stellantis, and spirits company Pernod Ricard will be removed from the index, all previously impacted by U.S. import tariffs under former President Donald Trump.
