Russia Calls for Investigation into Murder of U.S. Far-Right Leader Charlie Kirk

This Thursday, the Russian government urged U.S. authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of Charlie Kirk, a prominent American far-right leader. Kirk’s assassination has raised alarm in the United States, highlighting ongoing political violence challenges. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova emphasized the need to pinpoint those responsible, framing the incident as indicative of a broader crisis within American society, reports 24brussels.

Zakharova condemned the killing as a “premeditated murder,” asserting that it underscores the pervasive issue of political violence faced by Americans. Her remarks come amid heightened tensions following Kirk’s death, which has reverberated across the nation as he was a key figure in the MAGA movement and founder of Turning Point USA.

The incident unfolded Wednesday at Utah Valley University in Orem, where Kirk, 31, was scheduled to deliver a speech as part of his “American Comeback Tour.” Authorities reported that he was shot in the neck by an unidentified assailant, which resulted in life-threatening injuries. As of now, the FBI is investigating carefully, with Kirk’s murder seen as part of a disturbing trend involving public figures.

Zakharova insisted that “an investigation must be carried out,” emphasizing the necessity of identifying not just the shooter but all potential accomplices in this tragic event. However, she warned against rushing to conclusions, as the identities of the perpetrator and any masterminds remain unknown.

In the aftermath, former President Donald Trump, a close friend of Kirk, delivered a national address from the Oval Office. He ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Kirk’s honor and vowed to pursue all those responsible for the attack aggressively. Trump further intensified the atmosphere by attributing the violence to the rhetoric of the “radical left,” alleging that such discourse fuels domestic terrorism.

Authorities have detained two suspects for questioning in connection with the case, but they were subsequently released. FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed that investigators found a bolt-action rifle believed to be the weapon used in the crime in a wooded area near the campus, where the shooter reportedly fled.

Moreover, law enforcement has acquired “high-quality” video footage that captures the alleged gunman’s actions. According to reports, he was seen arriving at the university at approximately 11:52 a.m. local time, ascending to the rooftop of the venue, and firing the shot before fleeing the scene by jumping off the roof.

OpenAI and Microsoft Advance Partnership Amid Restructuring Efforts

As OpenAI restructures its nonprofit framework, the organization has made significant strides in its partnership with Microsoft, announcing a new phase of collaboration, reports 24brussels.

On September 11, 2025, Microsoft and OpenAI released a joint statement declaring they have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU), emphasizing their commitment to finalize a definitive agreement. This new arrangement signals a focus on enhancing AI tools while prioritizing safety in their applications.

With an investment of $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019, Microsoft not only shares in the profits generated from ChatGPT and its API but also recognizes OpenAI as a competitor. The tech giant is adjusting its strategies, leaning toward its own AI models while maintaining the option to utilize models from other providers.

During a company town hall, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and AI chief Mustafa Suleyman reinforced their strategy of investing significantly in in-house AI development. Suleyman stated, “We should have the capacity to build world-class frontier models in house of all sizes, but we should be very pragmatic and use other models where we need to.”

Additionally, OpenAI clarified that its nonprofit parent will retain oversight of its for-profit operations, maintaining an equity stake valued at over $100 billion. This aspect of the collaboration has raised concerns among other philanthropies and nonprofits about OpenAI’s unique restructuring plan.

As investigations by the attorneys general of California and Delaware commence, OpenAI expressed its commitment to working collaboratively with these officials. In their announcement, OpenAI stated, “We continue to work with the California and Delaware Attorneys General as an important part of strengthening our approach, and we remain committed to learning and acting with urgency to ensure our tools are helpful and safe for everyone, while advancing safety as an industry-wide priority.”

  • Microsoft has invested more than $13 billion in OpenAI.
  • The two companies have disputed over the deal terms of their partnership.
  • On Thursday, they announced that a non-binding memorandum of understanding had been signed.

Microsoft and OpenAI have reached a tentative agreement on the terms of their partnership after disputes over governance and future equity stake threatened to rupture the high-stakes alliance.

In a joint statement on Wednesday, the companies said they signed a “non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the next phase of our partnership.”

“We are actively working to finalize contractual terms in a definitive agreement. Together, we remain focused on delivering the best AI tools for everyone, grounded in our shared commitment to safety,” the statement said.

Spokespeople for OpenAI and Microsoft did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

The deal represents a major development in the partnership between the storied tech titan and a leading AI powerhouse.

Microsoft, a crucial source of funding for OpenAI, has invested over $13 billion into the startup, starting back in 2019, in exchange for a contractual claim on future profits.

How much Microsoft would get has been one of the few sticking points for the two companies.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
