Keir Starmer must obey his “legal duty to act to prevent a genocide”, Greta Thunberg has told the Guardian while travelling aboard an aid flotilla heading for Gaza.

The Swedish activist said there was a “huge absence of those whose legal responsibility it is to step up” under international law, and called out the UK prime minister before a potential meeting this week with Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog.

Second Africa-CARICOM Summit to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

The second Africa-CARICOM Summit is set to take place on September 7, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aimed at reinforcing historical, political, and economic connections between African nations and the Caribbean Community, reports 24brussels.

This summit carries the theme “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.” Its objectives include formulating a shared agenda to tackle mutual challenges and enhance South-South cooperation.

Key priorities of the meeting will involve advocating for reparatory justice related to colonial-era atrocities, establishing a cohesive stance in multilateral forums, and initiating collaborative efforts in health, social advancement, and preserving historical memory.

Prominent figures anticipated at the ceremony include Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission; Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed; Angolan President and current AU leader João Lourenço; and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The summit is expected to play a crucial role in uniting the African and Caribbean regions in addressing shared historical grievances while fostering strategic partnerships for sustainable development and progress.
