Mass Rally in Honduras Set Amid Tensions

The Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre) of Honduras has announced a mass rally scheduled for Saturday, August 30, in San Pedro Sula, amid high political tensions and criminal allegations against former government officials, reports 24brussels.

Former President Manuel Zelaya, leading the movement’s General Coordination, emphasized that this rally will represent the start of “a new popular victory” as the nation approaches the general elections on November 30. Libre aims to unify over 30,000 groups during the event, intending to demonstrate citizen solidarity in the face of ongoing political and social challenges.

Zelaya’s presidential candidate, Rixi Moncada, also endorsed the rally, highlighting its objective to foster a peaceful and democratic atmosphere. “With more than 30,000 groups, we are peacefully building a new foundation and a new victory. We will win,” he declared on social media, asserting that the rally symbolizes a commitment to citizen unity.

In a related development, Attorney General Joel Zelaya announced the arrests of three individuals—Arcadio López Estrada, Perfecto Jesús Enamorado Paz, and Antonio David Catán Rivera—on charges of terrorism and attempted murder. This case reflects the growing concerns regarding threats to Libre’s political agenda and the integrity of the nation’s institutions.
